SUMMARY: The 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of golf course maintenance and management. This includes overseeing staff, managing budgets, developing and implementing agronomic plans, coordinating with vendors, monitoring playability conditions, providing environmental stewardship initiatives onsite, and more. Additionally, they may be involved in special projects such as club house landscape renovations or building new tee boxes.
The 1st Assistant Superintendent also trains and supervises golf course personnel, is involved in daily scheduling, assist in developing annual budgets, and planning short and long-range golf course improvements. The role involves turfgrass management, irrigation, and chemical applications to ensure quality playing conditions. The position requires strong leadership skills to effectively manage a team of employees and ensure that the golf course meets strict standards of excellence. This position requires excellent communication skills to work with other departments within the organization as well as outside contacts like contractors or suppliers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but is not limited to the following:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises the 2nd Assistant Superintendent, Spray Technician, Landscape Technicians and Equipment Operators. Interacts with other Department Managers to provide accurate and timely information in a professional manner. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring and training, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff are working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. Position requires coordination internally with the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendent, and 2nd Assistant Superintendent.

Education and/or Experience
Language: Ability to read, write and comprehend complex correspondence, memos, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is beneficial.
Mathematics: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Computer: Ability to proficiently use Microsoft office suite, iSolved (timekeeping system).
Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
