Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
The Maintenance & Repair Leader supports daily golf course operations by maintaining turf, repairing equipment, and overseeing irrigation systems while working closely with course staff to ensure high-quality playing conditions. This role collaborates with the Greenskeeper/M&R Supervisor on course improvements, coordinates team work assignments, and assists colleagues with technical applications of fertilizers and pesticides. Candidates should bring hands-on golf course maintenance experience along with strong communication and teamwork skills to support both field operations and routine administrative tasks.

Typical Duties

 

  • Assists in the construction of new greens, tees, sand traps, etc.
  • Edges and maintains sand traps.
  • Keeps grounds clean from trash and debris.
  • Operates equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on golf course equipment.
  • Inspects areas of the golf course for turf diseases, insect, and pest damage.
  • Calibrates and operates equipment to apply fertilizer and pesticides.
  • Operates and repairs irrigation system.
  • Performs other routine maintenance.
  • Performs routine administrative duties.
  • Coordinates with Greenskeeper/M&R Supervisor on course improvements.
  • Keeps records and make reports.
  • Orders supplies and parts.
  • Distributes work assignments.

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of verifiable experience in golf course maintenance* which must have included the operation of specialized golf course maintenance equipment. 

 
LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver license

***Candidate must obtain TN Dept. of Agriculture Pesticide Certification, Category 3 within the first six (6) months of employment and must maintain certification.***

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Experience operating, troubleshooting and repairing of golf course irrigation systems. 
  • Experience with water management on Ultra dwarf putting greens (hand watering, syringing, detecting dry areas, etc.) 
  • Experience setting up, adjustment, and maintenance of reel mower cutting units.
  • Application and Calibration experience with equipment used for applying fertilizers and pesticides.
  • A working knowledge of cultural practices on ultra dwarf Bermudagrass putting greens.
